Spirit of Place: Essays and Letters on Travel

First Published: London, Faber & Faber, Ltd., 1969.
Also Published: New York, E.P. Dutton & Company, 1969.

As anthology volumes go, Spirit of Place is remarkable not only for the clear, concise selection of letters and essays set in the various points of Durrell's personal life of travel, more importantly, it contains extracts from his two earliest novels, Pied Piper of Lovers and Panic Spring, as well as the two short stories 'Zero', and 'Asylum in the Snow'.
