Deux Raisons

Innocents abed, knowing not what is said
in their names; and as they sleep,
I am watchful, I wish to remember
them as they are in deepest slumber
I want most to recall
how happy I was to see them
happy always to be with them
how I strove to hold temper and tongue
when thoughts of la trahison surged forth
onto the landscape once again.

Dearest of all dear children, my laughing jumeaux
I will always love you
more than you will ever know.
